Think All You Want, Life Will Still Happen
All of us have a dialogue going on in our heads. It’s our stream of consciousness, our “monkey mind,” our inner voice. But if you’re able to step back and watch this inner voice objectively (remember that if you can notice something, then that something isn’t you), you’ll see that much of what the voice says is meaningless.
Most of life will continue to unfold in accordance with forces far outside of our control, regardless of what our mind says. Our inner voice simply exists to make us feel better or worse about what is happening right now, what has gone on in the past, or what might happen in the future. It exists so we can try to control and understand a world where we truly have no real control and no real understanding.
If we can remember that this voice, this incessant chatter, isn’t who we really are; if we can remember that these thoughts are just an attempt to help buffer us from life, then hopefully we can actually start living it and begin to accept reality as it is.
You can think about it all you want, but life is still going to happen.
